Things you can do if you have lost your pet:
- Contact the local councils in your area. Ask if they have found your pet or if you can visit the pound to check. Also ask to have your pet put on their lost pet register. Give a thorough description of your lost pet including any distinguishing features and/or accessories.
- Contact a wide area of surrounding vets in case your pet has been injured or handed in. Ask to have your pet put on their lost pet register if they have one.
- Contact a wide area of surrounding animal welfare agencies. Use the rescue groups locator map to find which groups are near you. Ask if you can have your pet put on their lost pet register if they have one.
- Do a letter box drop in your area.
- Advertise in your local papers/bulletins and radio stations. Include a thorough description and photo if you have one. Mention where your pet was last seen and leave your contact details. Repeat as many times as necessary.
- Leave large, bright posters at schools, around the neighbourhood, at the local shops etc.
- If your pet is microchipped, make sure your contact details are correct and up-to-date. If not, contact the relevant microchipping database and have them updated.
- Be persistent. It can take, days, weeks or even months for your pet to turn up at a pound, vet or animal refuge.
